Besides quilting specialty shops, we sometimes found fabric in outlet shops with somewhat random selections.  The light weight cottons on the left were in a  big "2 dollar shop"  that also sold souvenirs, art supplies, and costumes.   Some such shops sell lots of island prints and kiwi-ana.  The picture on the right is some of the fabric I brought home to play with. The third kind of shop where we looked for fabrics was Spotlight, which is a chain like Joanne's but with quite a bit more household stuff.  The best buys were at the 2 dollar shops, but you had to be lucky to find what you wanted there.  Since  many resources in New Zealand have to be imported, prices are fairly high even when you convert to US dollars in your head
(right now the NZ dollar is about 85 cents US).
